Join us on June 23rd 7-10 p.m. for the Fourth Friday art shows and reception featuring Maximo Laura and 4 other new art exhibits. The events are free and open to the public. Free Parking.
Cantores de Luz by Maximo Laura
You can now buy tapestry art by one of Latin America’s most prolific textile artists at Art Works. Maximo Laura is a Peruvian award winning textile artist known worldwide for his tapestries that intertwine ancestral Peruvian techniques, symbols, memories and myths with contemporary aesthetics. All Laura tapestries are hand-woven at the Maximo Laura Studio. There is much to “read” when viewing a Maximo Laura tapestry. His website describes the realms, the cosmos, the Sun and Moon representations, the Inca Cross, the patterns, zigzags and circles and the meanings woven into the tapestries. This exhibit will be in the Jane Sandelin Gallery.
Oil Painting: The People of Colonial Williamsburg, The Blue Ridge and the Rocky Mountains by H. Binford Harrell
In this exhibit, the images inspire awe--an elaborate interpretation of purpose. The subjects appear to be entirely without pretension--an informal image. The work was performed using time-tested methods handed down from the Old Masters. This exhibit will be in the Centre Gallery, East.
Up Close and Personal: Miniature Cityscape Paintings by Alexangel Estevez
This exhibit showcases miniature cityscape paintings. Estevez used simplified brush strokes to emphasize a delicacy that is seen in each of the paintings. The city scapes are from Petersburg and Richmond, Virginia. This exhibit will be in the Centre Gallery, West.
Lost Secrets by Chris Semtner
Semtner's figure paintings are reminiscent of the Dutch Masters. This exhibit will be in the Skylight Gallery.
"Chris Semtner is an internationally exhibited artist, author, and curator living in Virginia. In recent years he has exhibited his paintings at the Science Museum of Virginia, Viktor Wynn Fine Art (London), the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (Philadelphia), and the World Horror Convention (Atlanta). He has been a guest critic for art classes at the University of Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University and teaches a weekly class at the Lifelong Learning Institute. Semtner lectures about art and literature to schools, universities, libraries, conventions, and art groups throughout the United States. He has appeared in documentaries for BBC 4, Ireland’s Dearg Films, Lionheart Films, the Discovery Channel, and BBC Persia."
Art in Flight by Jacquie Digney:
Digney finds birds of every species to be satisfying to paint. The texture and lines of the feathers, the structure of the beaks, and the right look in their eye(s) are a fun challenge. This exhibit will be in the Corner Gallery.
