SIMPLY PHOTOGRAPHY 14- Photographers get an opportunity to showcase their signature photographs in this juried show. Photography of all types including traditional, digital, manipulated and photographic mix-media are allowed. Frank Lee Ruggles is the juror. Jane Sandelin Gallery.
About the Juror: Frank Lee Ruggles
"[Frank Lee Ruggles] ...held the esteemed position as an Official Photographer for the United States National Park Service from 2007 through 2011, a position only held by a handful of people in the 100 year history of the NPS.
Prior to his work with the National Park Service, Ruggles provided services for the U.S. State Department, where he was the exclusive photographic printer for Secretary of State Colin Powell. He contracted for the The U.S. Treasury, the FBI, Dept. of Energy, and even performed custom hand photographic printing for the Smithsonian Institution.
He is currently serving as the first ever Artist Ambassador to the National Park Trust and is also the current Official Photographer for the US Army Historical Foundation. He is also working on pre-production for a new Television Series he will be hosting featuring his photo-adventures in the National Parks.
Frank's photographic works can be seen in galleries and public buildings across the country. His photographs hang in private collections next to the works of [Ansel] Adams as well and have been featured in countless magazines. He has recently been working with National Geographic on a new series of 2016 coffee-table books aimed at younger readers featuring his photographs." - Ruggles' Website
Miscreations of the Source by August Oster - This exhibit will be in the Centre Gallery, East.
"Through mixing the human figure with strange creatures, displays of peculiar power, and intertwining elements within colorful compositions, August explores the strange beings of the fantasy world Nachtfufu. Using the juxtaposition of bright colors and figures, an organized chaos is created within his cartoon styled paintings. The artist holds a BFA in drawing and painting from Longwood University and brings his vision to life from his studio in Louisa, Virginia. August has been in multiple group and juried exhibitions with “Miscreations of The Source” being his debut solo show."
Happenstances with James King Belleville - This exhibit will be in the Centre Gallery, West. "So often in life we organisms try to plan and control things around ourselves somehow believing this will lead is where we want to be. However with so many attempts at control no one will ever be in control of anything. Life will be one happenstance after another leading everyone towards something new and different than expected. All the pieces in this show will be happenstance. By happenstance this show will also be a food drive to help those who don't have enough do to happenstance, and 60% of proceeds from any art sold will go to help the homeless in our community. Please come out and donate and share love to those who's life are on the wrong end of happenstance although they tried there best to control it"
Metropolitan Richmond Artists Association - The MRAA roots go back as far as 1955 with one of the founding members being Theresa Pollack. In 2003, two artist associations (West End Allied Artists Association and the Richmond Artists Association) combined to become the MRRA. This group of diverse artists exhibits in many galleries in the Richmond area. The exhibit will be in the Skylight Gallery.
JANUARY 2017 ALL-MEDIA SHOW
Each month Art Works offers artists from all over to participate in a juried art show. Sarah Masters is the juror of this show. Submissions are accepted from any artist and any medium. Call for Entries is on January 20-21, 2017 from 12pm - 6pm at Art Works. Artwork is on display through February 19, 2017.
About the Juror: Sarah Masters
"Sarah Masters is a visual artist living and working in Richmond, Virginia. Her work ranges from two-dimensional drawing and painting to three-dimensional sculpture and assemblage. At VisArts, Sarah teaches adult drawing classes both in the studio and en plein air. She shows her work locally and regionally, and her work is held in public, private, and corporate collections. Sarah is a Virginia Center for the Arts fellow. She holds degrees in Painting and Printmaking from VCU and in Botany from Duke University."
