ART WORKS FOR KIDS: Keeping the Arts Alive in Public Schools

Friday, August 24th 7-10pm: An art show, silent auction, and fashion show benefiting neighborhood elementary school's art program

Art Works Studios and Galleries, located in Manchester, minutes from downtown Richmond is hosting a very special art show and fundraiser to benefit Blackwell Elementary school’s art program. On August 24, 2012 the featured art show will be a retrospective on childhood entitled: "When I Was A Child - artful memories of childhood". Jeff Hall, the chair of Maggie Walker Governor School Art Program, will jury this all-media art show. Artwork in this exhibit will be for sale and proceeds go to providing art supplies for Blackwell Elementary School’s art program.

What a way to start back to school, with a closet full of great supplies!

But wait, this is not just another art show and reception. Guests can bid on auction items that include: children’s room furnishings, hand-decorated by Richmond artists and gift filled baskets. Richmond child focused organizations and businesses contribute to this event and provide information and prizes.

Here’s the line-up so far:

7:00 - 7:45 Puppet show by Barefoot Puppets

8:00 p.m. Children's Fashion Show - Parents dress your children in Sunday best, scariest creature, crazy hats, invented super hero...you get the picture! $5 to enter the fashion show (Which goes to Blackwell School) Awards presented for these categories: Baby (0-1), Toddler (1-4), K-5, and 6th-8th grade and prizes to all who participate.

8:30 p.m. People's Choice Awards - Vote for your 3 favorite pieces of artwork in the Gallery Members' Signature Art Show

8:45 p.m. Juror talk and awards presentation by Jeff Hall for the "When I Was A Child..." art show

9:00 pm. Auction/Raffle winners' presentation - Buy $1 raffle tickets and place as many as you want in any of the auction items cups. Drawings of winners by the art teacher at Blackwell Elementary school.

All Night: Enter to win door prize (Theatre Tickets and Wine) by bringing some art supplies for the children or pay $5 for a chances to win.

All Night: Have your little darlings' picture, or a family photo made by Captured Memories. Only $20 donation.

Please come out for this great community art event! We will have raffles, kid's activities, music and more!
