RECENT WORK BY JAMES TIMBERLAKE Exhibiting in the Jane Sandelin Gallery is James Timberlake, a self-taught abstract painter from Richmond, Virginia.

RECENT WORK BY CHARLES ARNOLD Charles Arnold is a painter who obtained his BFA from RPI (VCU) and his exhibits of oils will be in the Centre Gallery, East.

"I worked in an ad agency as an art director/creative director for more than twenty years before leaving to form a freelance illustration business. During this time I maintained a love of painting, drawing and photography. I have exhibited in many shows over the years and have won many awards and prizes. My work hangs in private, corporate and institutional collections. In the past I was a member of Metropolitan Artists; Association and Richmond Artists.

The work in this show is a selection of subjects I have painted during the last thirty years. My interest is mainly in the forms and textures found in nature but I also have found beauty in handmade objects."

WATERSCAPES by Virginia Godfrey Virginia Godfrey will exhibit oil paintings featuring water scenes.  Her exhibit will be in the Corner Gallery

Virginia Guilfoil Godfrey began her love affair with color many years ago.

“I fell in love with color, and the effect of light on color, over thirty-five years ago. I began expressing my love in the early 1970s. Initially, I experimented with several different mediums, pastels, acrylics, and oil, and in the end, oil won out. It possesses the intensity of color that I was looking for, and I enjoy the feel of the paint as my brush lays, and layers it, it upon my canvas.

“While much of my experience has come from self-teaching and experimentation, I have studied with several artists along the way, most notably Howard Carr and Diego Sanchez, Howard in Sedona, Arizona, during a workshop, and Diego here in Richmond through the HandWorkShop. I have also attended a painting workshop at La Fratta, in Tuscany, Italy.”

Virginia’s paintings range from realistic landscapes and still life to abstract. Her paintings have been juried into many shows across the eastern United States, and are owned by people living in California and Texas as well as the Midwest, New England, the South Eastern U.S., and Europe.

"I started taking photographs in high school, studied it in college and have never stopped.  Both my parents were artists and I learned to "see" the things of every day for their patterns, colors and light from a young age.  I have a special appreciation for the patterns of nature and the beauty of the natural world.  Man-made patterns and colors always catch my eye as well.

In recent years, I started to focus on doing macro work - very up close takes of life around us.  Providing a different perspective on things.  I am always drawn to florals and plant life  and the majority of my work reflects that - although I'm happy to end up with an interesting portrait or urban landscape, too!  This past year, I began experimenting with printing very large on canvas.  The results have been rather startling and bold - and I'm very happy with the outcomes of this process.

For this show, I wanted to bring together the best of my newest "Up Close & Personal" pieces in a way that reflects my love of nature, color, and pattern.  The world is huge out there and hopefully these photographs show its smaller pieces in a big, new and interesting way."
