Portugal.  Immerse yourself in the sounds, feelings, flavors and images of Portugal at Art Works on June 26th.  it’s a festive destination with a uniquely European flavor. From the rural mountain region of Portugal, Patricio Vilanova brings a new exhibit created expressly for Art Works’ gallery.  On opening night, meet Patricio; enjoy Porto wine, our meatball recipe modified to reflect the Portuguese palate, cheeses and sausages, music and a movie about Patricio’s country.  And while the ambiance of the evening is old world, the art brings a contemporary vision of life.  Show is on display through July 19th.

Patricio was born in a small village Porto, Portugual, He has a degree in Design and began painting in his free time. Along with teaching, Patricio paints in attempt to understand the true nature of the human being. His work is a cross bewtween expressionism and surrealism and he continues to search for human truths as he paints. This body of work is entitled Humanity and “ is inspired by the various steps of life between birth and death, between happiness and sadness, between all things around us.”

Her work ranges from purist, realistic nature photography to playful exploration of abstract patterns and quirky glimpses of everyday life. Her eye is drawn to beauty and she often finds beauty in the harshness of nature –not to shock the viewer, but to honor the subject and the rawness and depth of life. “How the image touches me defines the moment the shutter is clicked.”
