About the Juror: "Matt Lively began his career as an artist at a young age when he believed that the life of an artist would afford him late, sleepy mornings. While sleeping until noon did not work out, he has enjoyed a successful career - guided by his suburban upbringing in Richmond, Virginia. Lively graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in sculpture, and soon after moved to Atlanta and began creating his whimsical artwork. Lively’s work in sculpture and in restoration have provided him with the tools and knowledge to create three-dimensional artwork. His paintings depict implied movement through subtle hints of things that have been displaced. The paintings playfully represent a less hectic time where the minutes go by so slowly that normally stagnant objects seem to be moving."

By Rainer Lagemann

Rainer Lagemann was born in Düsseldorf, Germany in 1957. In 1978 he did an internship in Chile in a copper mine and in 1983 to 1987 studied interior architecture in FH Detmold, In 1988 he move to California's Bay and worked at as interior designer. In 2005 he started welding and it became an obsession right away. “Once I found my medium, I finally could start to express what I had learned in the last 25 years in schools, museums, travels, people and in my dreams.  I concentrate on the human body in a modern interpretation of the classic art of sculpture.” It is fascinating how these little metal squares allow me to create the soft flowing form of the body, leaving the viewers eye and imagination to complete what is not there. I choose to bronze plate the sculptures with a final finish of unpolished antique bronze, a texture that reminds me of artifacts found after being hidden for centuries in the ground. "
