Artist Statement :
Mary Vivo was born in Brooklyn, New York. She attended The Cooper Union School of Art and The School of Visual Arts. Mary has exhibited at numerous group shows including, Art Works' All-Media Exhibitions in Richmond, VA, the 64th Annual Art of Northeast in New Caanan, CT and the Nor’Easter 44th Annual Juried Exhibition at the New Britain Museum of Art in New Britain, CT. Mary and her art were featured in the March 2014 issue of Hartford Magazine.
Her work combines the use of a variety of materials including wood, colored pencil, paper, markers and acrylic paint to create what she calls Housculptures – miniature models of structures and their surroundings.
Mary’s “animal montages” are done mostly in colored pencil. The drawings are raised on wood panels to give each animal a 3D appearance and are enhanced by added touches of nature. She took this concept a step further by creating an educational set of cards highlighting facts and drawings of ten of the most critically endangered species. Mary is currently working on a set featuring farm animals.
